Hematology analyzers are also called cell counters as they are used to make a complete blood count (CBC) including red blood cell (RBC), white blood cell (WBC), hemoglobin, and platelet counts, as well as hematocrit levels and many other parameters.
What is the principle of Hematology Analyzer?
The traditional method for counting cells is electrical impedance, also known as the Coulter Principle. Coulter's principle is applied through the use of two electrodes. Using hydrodynamic focusing, the sample cells are sent through an orifice one cell at a time. As the cells go through the orifice, they briefly cause electrical resistance to the current. This resistance is recorded, measured, amplified, and processed which can then be interpreted by the computer into a histogram.
What are the benefits of CBC?
The CBC measures different substance in your blood, it helps healthcare providers monitor your health, screen for disease and detect a range of disorders and conditions, such as infections, anemia and leukemia.
When is a CBC performed?
Normally if you have sysmptoms like inflammation (swelling and iiritation) anywhere in the body, bruising, bleeding, fatigue, dizzingness, fever, joint pain or problems with heart rate or blood pressure, you may need a CBC.
What difference between 3-Part and 5-Part Diff cell counter?
The main difference is that a 3-part cell counter machine reports only differentiate 3 type of White blood cells (neutrophils, lymphocytes, and monocytes). For specialty laboratories, a 5-part hematology instrument can provide a more detailed and targeted assessment of the blood status. To distinguish eosinophils and basophils from neutrophils, for example, a 5-part differentiation is necessary.
